Honey, Please

I am participating in something called “February Album Writing Month” which I discovered through my brother.

It’s basically where anyone who needs a little kick in the pants and some motivation to get some music writing done can go and attempt to write at least 14 songs in the month of February. Check it out if you’re curious to know more at http://www.fawm.org

I have 2 completed songs and a few incomplete songs… and many more to go,

But here is this for now!
Thanks for listening!

Say it with a Onesie

So here is the truth.

Taking care of a newborn is some repetitious work.

There are lots of things that you WANT to be doing, but are physically, mentally or emotionally incapable of doing for a while.

Well guess what?

It’s totally ok.

You don’t need to prove to the world that you are a super mom.

Just to your baby.

And the best way to prove that is lots of snuggles, feeding, and binge watching a funny show on Netflix so you can laugh and feel somewhat normal while that sweet baby sniffs and snuggs all up in your arms.

If there are other children in the picture, this may have to be after they are finally in bed and it’s just you and the new night owl chilling together.

Whatever your routine, know that you don’t need to apologize for letting go of the little things and letting someone else step in and help you out while you kick back and recover.

Ok.

I got a little carried away there. With my little dude number 2, life was very nutso. We closed on our first home purchase the week before he was born. It was a fixer upper. Basically my dream house. I love diy projects and being involved in them. But guess what? I just had a baby and found myself sitting amongst boxes in a half-packed up house with two little guys while everyone else worked on my new place without me. I was bummed, to say the least, that I was helplessly sitting around doing mundane mom stuff every day at our old place, rather than being part of the excitement, progress and decision making at the new home.

So you know what I did?

I watched Gilmore Girls.

Everyone always told me how funny it was, so I gave it a shot. Sure, it isn’t for everyone, but I think people who have struggles and victories and have weird people in their lives and witness a little bit of crazy drama here and there can relate to Lorelai and Rory, and it did cheer me up and distracted me from my bummer summer sitch.

So that is what inspired this onesie, and I feel like a lot of other little mothers can possibly relate.

An Accidental Discovery!

When confronting dishes in my sink one day,
I found a jalapeno slice stuck to the bottom of a copper-bottomed saucepan,
And when I took it off, there was a bright shiny spot!
So that was the birth of a little short-cut-no-scrub-shiny-pot-bottom trick!
It only seemed fitting that I should make a little comic out of it.
At least this is how I picture it…

Wisdom From the Aged

A while ago I was reading Whole Living
And came across some little interviews with elderly women
Who were sharing their perspectives on life and whatnot.
This one stood out to me, so I tore the page out and saved it forever.
Finally, I got around to scanning it in so I could share it.
I couldn’t find it online anywhere, although I’m sure it’s floating around somewhere in cyber-space…
The point is, she is 100 and I love what she has to say.
Especially (obviously) the part I drew crazy lines around and underlined.
HELLO!
It’s so true.

Read and ponder.

Humid.

Humid weather
Makes baby’s hair curly.
I took a few pictures of him
Because he was tired and looked cute.

After a brief stint at the Farmers Market
Li’l Dub started rubbing his eyes in the car,
Which must have gotten sunscreen into them,
Because then he started wailing.
So we stopped for coffee, water, and a fritter,
Played with the magna-doodle,
And soon all was well again.
Can I just say that I am so stoked that our community is able to support the local farmers with such gusto?
It was HOPPING today, and I wasn’t even there super early.
I am very happy about this.
And also slightly confused as to why we don’t have a Trader Joe’s yet.
I digress.
Farmers market = thriving.
This is a good thing.
So we got home and I added the dill and peppermint that I’d just purchased to my herb garden
And thinned out my spinach
While W scooped dirt out of it and dumped it onto the tomato plants.
I’ll have to take some updated pictures of el jardin soon.
It’s looking pretty adorable.
